BGen Reynalco B. Mapagu, Undersecretary for Civil, Veterans and Retiree Affairs visits VMMC
BGen Reynaldo B. Mapagu, the newly appointed Undersecretary for Civil, Veterans and Retiree Affairs of the Department of National Defense met with top officials of VMMC last Friday, October 6, 2017 at the CPS Conference Room.
VMMC Director Dr. Dominador M. Chiong Jr. led VMMC top officials in welcoming the Undersecretary at the Directors Office. After the customary signing of the VMMC guest book, the guest was ushered to the CPS Conference Room for a short briefing.
The briefing was presented by Dr. Chiong. It consisted of the historical background, services, facilities, finances and future projects of the Medical Center. The challenges and issues being encountered by the hospital were also reported during the briefing.
Also in attendance was PVAO Administrator Ernesto G, Carolina who admonished the VMMC management to change its mindset toward the care being given to the veterans and their qualified dependents. He mentioned the stream of complaints he regularly receives in his office at PVAO. He also urged the staff to exhaust all means to ensure that all veteran patients should receive the best quality of medical care due to living heroes. He reiterated his unwavering commitment towards a vision that "no veteran shall pay for his or her medical needs."
In his message, USEC Mapagu expressed his gratitude to the warm welcome accorded him by the VMMC Community to his visit. He lauded the Medical Center for living up to its mandate and also commended Management for the plans ahead and initiative it is undertaking to modernize its facility and equipment to further improve its medical services to the veterans
After the briefing and short snacks, USEC Mapagu was accompanied by VMMC officials for a short tour of the hospital facilities which included the Department of Pathology, Operating Room Complex, PACU, Department of Rehabilitation Medicine, Eye Center, among others.
