A mix of gratitude and hope filled the Basilio Valdes Hall last January 8, 2017 as hospital top officials and employees gathered together for the traditional New Year’s Courtesy Call.

Shortly after the Monday flag raising ceremony, VMMC Director Dr. Dominador M. Chiong Jr. spearheaded the holding of the annual gathering. Joining him were the Heads and Chiefs of the different departments, divisions and sections of the hospital.

The annual event started off with an invocation delivered by Reverend Father Emigdio A. Paredes followed by the VMMC Choir singing of the national anthem and the VMMC Hymn.

Gracing the event was BGen. Reynaldo Mapagu, Undersecretary of the Civil, Veteran and Retirees Affair. In his message, USEC Mapagu reminded and encouraged hospital employees to exert more effort and go the extra mile to improve the frontline services to its clientele, the veterans. He also recognized the many improvements in several areas of the hospital. Likewise, He also reported a number of complaints received by their office from dissatisfied patients.

He ended his message in exhorting everyone to continuously seek ways to better serve the clientele and not to rest on their laurels “There is a lot of promise for VMMC and I think if all of you, joining hands in unity of purpose (you) will be able to deliver the goods, I would like to congratulate you for a job well done but do not be complacent, just keep on improving your services” he said.

Meanwhile, for his message, Dr. Chiong gave an update of the significant development/upgrades and changes in the hospital facilities and emphasized the three (3) priorities of VMMC which are the modernization of hospital facilities, improvement of medical services and patient’s satisfaction. He also mentioned the various projects being undertaken in the hospital like the relocation of the Emergency Ward, renovation of Ward-8 and SICU, establishment of the Prostate of the Stone Center, development of Cardiac (Heart) Institute, acquisition of 128 CT Scan Machine among others. He also cited the improved and strengthened partnership of the hospital with other veteran-affiliated associations such as the AGFO, AFPSLAI , AMSWLAI  and others. He acknowledged the E-jeep and E-cart donated recently by AMWSLAI and the Kagitingan ng mga Sundalo Foundation respectively. Lastly, he expressed his gratitude to the employees “Again, thank you everyone for the help and support. We expect the same for this coming year. Let us maintain our focus on making our patients happy” he said.

After the message, Dr. Chiong together with BGEN Mapagu and the hospital top officials lined up for the traditional hand shake and exchange of greetings with the employees.
