The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Secretary Roy A. Cimatu visited the Veterans Memorial Medical Center last September 26, 2018. The Secretary was accompanied by Undersecretary Rodolfo Garcia and several mistahs of PMA Class 1970. The guests were given a warm welcome at the Director’s Office by the VMMC officials headed by VMMC Director Dominador M. Chiong Jr, Assistant Director Franklin V. Gali and Chief, Medical Professional Staff Dr. Mariano A. Mejia. Also present during the visit was PVAO Administrator Ernesto G. Carolina, a distinguished member of Class 1970.
The Secretary’s visit was in line with the desire of PMA Class 1970 members to have their own ward inside the Medical Center. After a brief meeting at the Director Office, the guests together with VMMC top officials conducted a traditional tour of the facilities of the hospital to look for possible site of the adopted ward.
After the tour, Secretary Cimatu praised and commended Management for their efforts to upgrade and modernize the hospital facilities. He noted the vast improvements in numerous areas of the hospital especially the Emergency Ward which according to the guests is at par or even better than other private hospital in Metro Manila.
At the end of the visit, the Secretary and the other members of PMA Class 1970 identified an open area right outside the rooftop of Ward 21 where the Class 1970 ward will be erected.
Several PMA Class Associations had initiated and supported infra projects in the hospital. Last year, the Association of General and Flag Officers (AGFO) funded the renovation of the AGFO Suite at Ward-21. On the other hand, PMA “Sandigan” Class öf 1982 sponsored the renovation of a private ward at Ward-11 last year. Currently, the construction and extension of six (6) private rooms at the opposite end of Ward 21 is ongoing. This infrastructure project is financially supported by PMA “Matikas” Class of 1983.
