Heeding the clamor of veterans living in Northern Mindanao, the Veterans Memorial Medical Center conducted separate Medical, Surgical and Dental Missions in Camiguin Island and Iligan City Town Plaza on September 22, 2018 and September 26, 2018 respectively.
VMMC sent four (4) medical personnel to Mambajao, Camiguin Island while a Medical Team composed of 85 members was dispatched to Iligan City Town Plaza.
PHIVIDEC Industrial Authority provided the transportation services and meals of the VMMC Medical Team.
One hundred ninety-six (196) patients showed up to avail of free medical, surgical and diagnostic services in the medical mission in Camiguin Island whereas six hundred thirty-six (636) patients were served in Iligan City (414 patients have medical concerns,151 dental extractions and 71 ECG procedures).
Two hundred eighteen (218) free eyeglasses and two (2) months maintenance medicines were given away to veterans and their dependents during the outreach missions. Indigent patients who availed of medical services were given one (1) week supply of medicines.
It is the first time that VMMC conducted medical missions in Northern Mindanao. Veterans, AFP Retirees and dependents in the area were exhilarated and very thankful for the services they availed of.
Medical mission is a part of the Civic Action and Outreach Program of the hospital to support national government. VMMC regularly provides community service to nearby communities and has stepped up its efforts to reach out to veterans and their dependents who live in the far flung areas and do not have convenient access to VMMC. As of this date, VMMC has already conducted five (5) outreach missions in different provinces of the country. VMMC will be conducting a medical mission in Tacloban, Leyte on October 19, 2018.
