Hundreds of veterans and their qualified dependents in Palo, Leyte benefited from the Medical, Surgical and Dental Mission conducted by the Veterans Memorial Medical Center and its partners on October 19, 2018. 

The one-day mission held at the at DepEd Leyte Gymnasium, Candahug, Palo, Leyte offered different free medical services such as medical check-up, eye examination, dental services, ECG, and blood pressure check-up. 

A total of three hundred twenty five (325) patients availed of the medical services with two (2) minor surgery, forty nine (49) dental extraction and seventy four (74) ECG procedures performed.

The outreach mission also provided one hundred five (105) free eyeglasses and two (2) months maintenance medicines to veterans and their dependents.  Indigent patients who availed of medical services were given one (1) week supply of medicines.

The VMMC medical team was spearheaded by Dr. Mariano A. Mejia, Chief, Medical Professional Staff and consisted of 59 members (Doctors from the Department of Internal Medicine, Family Medicine & Out-Patient Services, Surgery, Ophthalmology, Rehabilitation Medicine, Othorinolaryngology, and Obstetrics & Gynecology), nurses, dentists, pharmacists, dietitians and medical social workers. 

The Provincial Department of Social Welfare and Development Office (PDSWDO) of Palo, Leyte, Region VIII Veterans Federation of the Philippines, PVAO FSEO 08 and 71st Infantry Battalion of Philippine Army worked hand in hand and contributed immensely to the success of the event.
