The Veterans Memorial Medical Center held the Inauguration and Blessing of the newly- constructed Emergency Ward on December 7, 2018.

 

The Secretary of National Defense Delfin N. Lorenzana, alongside with Dr. Dominador M. Chiong Jr., Undersecretary for Civil, Veterans and Retiree Affairs Reynaldo G. Mapagu, PVAO Administrator Ernesto G. Carolina spearheaded the event.

 

In his inauguration message, Dr. Chiong shared that the Emergency Ward was part of an ambitious hospital program being undertaken to meet the growth and service needs of our veterans and our community.

 

“The Emergency Ward is a welcome addition to our efforts to modernize the hospital. This accomplishment is a direct reflection of the commitment and hard work of the management and staff of VMMC. Not only will this unit enhance the current level of care to emergency patients, it will also promote renewed enthusiasm among the staff in delivering emergency care“ he said

 

Meanwhile, Secretary Delfin N. Lorenzana in his speech congratulated the VMMC for its notable improvements in its facilities, particularly the relocation of the emergency. He also assured Management of his full support to all hospital projects that will ensure improved access of the veterans to quality health care services.

 

This historical event drew attendance from numerous distinguished guests. Among those present during the inauguration were Former Secretary of Foreign Affairs Perfecto Yasay, former Executive Secretary Eduardo R. Ermita, former USEC Jesus H. Millan, PCSO Chairman Anselmo Pinili, Philippine envoy to Malaysia Wenceslao Andanar and his better half, Philippine Veterans League National Commander Marlon Dantes, PEFTOK President Col. Sixto Belen, Veterans Federation of the Philippines Chairman

 

The newly completed Emergency Ward was constructed and equipped at a cost of 65 million pesos funded by the National Government. It provides a significantly greater space twice the size of the previous Emergency Room. It features 21 Treatment Rooms, 2 main Nursing Stations, a dedicated rapid assessment section or the Triage Room. It also has provisions for an increased number of examination rooms, an expanded ambulance bay, a dedicated radiology sections with X-rays and ultrasound, an Operating Room and Specialty Clinics like ENT, Ophthalmology, Pediatrics and OB-Gynecology.

 

The Emergency Ward opened its doors in July 2018, since then it has increased its patient census by 8 to 10%. In the foreseeable future, the number of new emergency patients is expected to rise from 30 to 45% per annum.
